My Favourite Movie Themed Wedding Music

I have always loved films and the soundtracks that accompany them. As a teenager, I had The Lord of the Rings, Braveheart, Harry Potter etc. on repeat. Now I love all types of film music, from the romantic films of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers to the ever growing Marvel franchise.

When choosing your music for your ceremony, it is important that you choose music that is special to you and your partner. Don’t just choose music you think you ‘should’ have.

Below are some of my favourite soundtracks, that work beautifully on the piano, for your ceremony, reception or wedding breakfast.

NOTE: I had to remove movie musicals from this list as it was growing and growing. My favourite Musicals list will be coming soon…

  1. Now We are Free, by Hans Zimmer, Gladiator. Love this movie and the soundtrack is one of the best. ❤️

2. Cavatina, Stanley Myers. From The Deer Hunter.

3. Avengers Theme. Something a bit different for any fans of superhero movies, why not walk down the aisle to this romantic version of the Avengers Theme.

4. I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing by Aerosmith, used in the 1998 film Armageddon

‘I could stay awake just to hear you breathing
Watch you smile while you are sleeping
While you’re far away and dreaming
I could spend my life in this sweet surrender
I could stay lost in this moment forever
Every moment spent with you is a moment I treasure’

5. For the Love of a Princess by James Horner. From: Braveheart. Yes I know this film is full of historical inaccuracies, but it still holds a place in my heart as one of my favourites growing up. This would have me sobbing from about 30min into the film. James Horner’s music is absolutely perfect.

6. Love Theme by Nino Rota. From: Romeo And Juliet. Also known as ‘A Time for Us’ from the 1968 film.

7. Kissing You by Des’ree. From: Romeo and Juliet. From Baz Lurmann’s reimagining of this classic love story. I first played this at the wedding of one of my oldest friends and it was the perfect ballad for her to walk down the aisle to.

8. Portuguese Love Theme or Glasgow Love Theme by Craig Armstrong. From: Love Actually.

9. As Time Goes By by Herman Hupfeld. From: Casablanca. Another truly romantic classic which has become a jazz standard. ‘Here’s looking at you kid’

10. The Luckiest, Ben Folds (from About Time)

11. I Will Always Love You. Written and recorded by Dolly Parton in 1973, although most recently recorded by Whitney Houston for the 1992 film Bodyguard.

12. One Summer’s Day By Joe Hisaishi from the film Spirited Away

13. A Thousand Years by Christina Perri. From: Twilight. A very popular song written for the wedding between Bella and Edward in the Twilight Saga, Breaking Dawn. I love this version by the Piano Guys with the cello but alway works perfectly as a piano solo.

14. My Heart will go on. I remember the excitement as a 14 year old getting this sheet music and it being one of the first film pieces I learnt… James Horner remains one of my favourite composers.

15. Iris by Goo Goo Dolls. From: City of Angles. Perfect for an alternative song choice.

Let me know below your favourite movie soundtracks.
